A driver was killed in a crash during an event at the Keystone Raceway in New Alexandria on Saturday afternoon.
The Westmoreland County coroner said Ronnie J. Ruggiero, 37, of Irwin, was driving a Ford drag racing truck when he to stop at the end of the racetrack, traveled into a gravel safety pit at a high rate of speed and hit a safety pit sand mound.
Ruggiero was pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner said he was wearing a helmet and using a safety harness.
State police are investigating the crash.
